{detailed description}Dornier have risen twice from devastation to remain one of the world's most respected companies within the aviation industry. Professor Claude Dornier's first aircraft flew in 1916 and over the years his varied products, from giant flying boats to heavy fighters, gained a reputation for daring innovation. The most spectacular concept to emerge was a large VTOL transport, the Do 31, which demonstrated in 1967 but was considered too far ahead of its time. Perhaps Professor Dornier enjoyed the compliment.
